As 2022 comes to a close and we head into 2023, many nonprofits look to set new goals for the new year, an important step in evolving and directing the organization's efforts. Here are some steps to consider when creating goals for your nonprofit organization for the coming year:

Review the organization's mission and vision: Make sure that the goals you set align with the organization's overall mission and vision. This will help ensure that the goals are meaningful and relevant to the organization's purpose.
Involve stakeholders in the goal-setting process: Gathering input from a diverse group of stakeholders, including board members, staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries, can help ensure that the goals reflect the needs and priorities of the organization as a whole.
Set SMART goals: SMART is a widely-used acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. Using this framework can help you create clear, specific, and achievable goals. Check out our blog on SMART Goals here.
Make a strategic plan: Once you have identified your goals, create a strategic plan for how you will achieve them. This may include identifying the resources you will need, setting deadlines, and assigning tasks to staff or volunteers.
Monitor and evaluate progress: Throughout the course of the year, regularly review your progress towards achieving your goals and make any necessary adjustments to your plan. This will help ensure that you are on track to achieve your goals and make any necessary course corrections along the way.
